Terms of Service
Version 8 — Effective: July 5, 2026
Terms of Service
1. Introduction
Welcome to Vellu.ai ("Service"), operated by Vellu.AI, a company incorporated and registered in Finland (Business ID: 3618524-6). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Service.
By accessing or using Vellu.ai, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you may not use the Service.
2. Service Description

- Record and upload audio content
- Transcribe audio recordings using AI
- Analyze and structure content using AI
- Generate, edit, and manage book chapters
- Add images to chapters, either by uploading your own photos or drawings or by generating and editing images with AI
- Design book covers, including generating and editing cover artwork and cover text with AI
- Export completed works as e-books (EPUB, PDF, or Word format)
- Order printed copies of a finished book for a separate payment, produced on demand and delivered within the EU/EEA (see section 13)
- Order, for a separate payment, audio books as that feature becomes available in the Service
- Purchase subscription plans or one-time credit packs to access paid AI features

3. User Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years of age to use this Service. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.
4. Account Registration
You may register using a third-party authentication provider (e.g., Google, Facebook) or email. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activities under your account.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Upload or generate content that is illegal, defamatory, or infringes on third-party rights
- Attempt to circumvent security measures or access other users' data
- Use the Service for automated scraping, data harvesting, or purposes other than book writing
- Upload content that you do not have the right to use
6. Intellectual Property
As between you and Vellu.AI, you retain all rights to the content you create, upload, or generate using the Service — including your audio recordings, transcriptions, generated chapters, and any images you upload or generate. We claim no ownership of that content.
You may upload images (such as photos or drawings) only if you hold the necessary rights to them, or are otherwise authorised to use them, for use within the Service. You retain all rights you hold in images you upload; uploading them to the Service does not transfer any of those rights to us.
Please note that retaining rights "as between you and us" is not the same as a copyright existing under law. Audio you record, text that reflects your own creative choices, and images you create yourself are normally protected by copyright with you as the author. However, under EU and Finnish law, content produced mainly by AI — whether text or images — with little creative input or editing from you may not qualify for copyright protection at all. The more your own creative choices and edits shape a chapter or an image, the stronger your copyright in it.
You grant Vellu.ai a limited, non-exclusive license to process your content solely for the purpose of providing the Service. This license terminates when you delete your content or account.
The Service itself, including its design, code, and branding, remains the intellectual property of Vellu.AI.
7. AI-Generated Content
In accordance with the EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689), we inform you that:
- Content generated by the Service is produced using artificial intelligence systems (OpenAI Whisper for transcription, Anthropic Claude for text generation and analysis, and OpenAI's image models for image generation and editing)
- AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies, hallucinations, or errors
- You are responsible for reviewing and verifying all AI-generated content before publication
- The use of AI does not transfer any intellectual property rights from AI providers to users
8. Paid Plans, Credits, and Credit Packs
Vellu.ai is offered on a credit-based model. AI operations consume credits at configurable rates disclosed in the Service.
- Subscription plans (Lite, Author, Extra) grant a monthly allotment of credits in exchange for a recurring fee. Annual billing is offered at a discount.
- Credit packs (Boost, Extra Boost) are one-time purchases that grant a fixed number of credits.
- Gift vouchers are one-time purchases that, when redeemed, grant a fixed number of credits to the redeeming account. Gift vouchers are governed by section 11.
- Book bundles (The Keepsake, The Legacy Edition) are one-time purchases that grant a fixed number of credits together with a voucher for a printed copy of a finished book. The credits are governed by this section and section 10; the printed-book voucher is governed by section 13. A book bundle may be purchased for yourself or, through the gift flow, as a gift (section 11).
- Signup credits may be granted once at account creation, including when an account is created in order to purchase a gift voucher.
Current plans, pack offerings, gift voucher bundles, book bundles, and credit amounts are displayed within the Service (on the Plans page and the gift purchase page) and form part of these Terms by reference. We may change pricing, credit allotments, or plan features with at least 30 days' notice to existing subscribers; changes take effect at the start of the next billing period. Changes to gift voucher pricing or credit amounts do not affect vouchers already purchased.
Discount codes. We may from time to time offer promotional discount codes that reduce the price of a qualifying purchase (a subscription, credit pack, book bundle, or printed-book order). Each code is subject to the conditions stated when it is offered, such as its validity period, the products it applies to, usage limits (per user and in total), and any restriction to new customers. For subscriptions, a discount code applies to the first payment only — the first monthly or annual billing period; the subscription then renews at the full then-current price as described in section 9. Only one discount code can be applied per purchase, and codes cannot be combined. Discount codes have no cash value and cannot be exchanged for money, transferred, or resold. The discounted price is shown to you before you pay, and if you withdraw from a discounted purchase under section 12, the refund is the amount you actually paid. We may deactivate a discount code or end a promotion at any time with effect for future purchases; this does not affect purchases already completed.
9. Payments, Billing, and Taxes
Payments are processed by Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd. You authorise us, through Stripe, to charge your chosen payment method for the amounts due.
Prices displayed within the Service are in euro (EUR) and include Finnish value added tax (VAT) at the applicable rate (currently 25.5%). Taxes for customers outside Finland are charged in accordance with applicable EU VAT rules. For gift vouchers, VAT is calculated and accounted for at the time of purchase.
- Automatic renewal: subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) at the then-current price, until cancelled. Credit packs, gift vouchers, and printed-book orders are one-time purchases and do not renew.
- Cancellation: you may cancel your subscription at any time through the billing portal linked from the Service. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain access and previously granted credits until that date, subject to section 10.
- Failed payments: if a recurring payment fails, we or Stripe may retry the charge. Continued failure may result in the subscription being suspended or cancelled. No new credits are granted until a successful payment is recorded.
- Invoices are issued by Stripe on our behalf. Subscription and credit pack invoices are available in the billing portal; a receipt or invoice for a gift voucher purchase is sent to the buyer and is available from the buyer's account.
10. Credit Use and Expiration
Credits — regardless of source (signup, subscription, credit pack, or redeemed gift voucher) — are pooled in a single balance and consumed in the order they are used, not the order they were granted.
- Expiration: your credit balance expires 24 months after the date of your most recent successful payment or gift voucher redemption. Any successful subscription renewal, credit pack purchase, book bundle purchase, or gift voucher redemption resets this expiration date to 24 months from the date of that event. For accounts that have never made a payment or redeemed a voucher, the signup credit balance expires 24 months after account creation.
- Notice: we send a reminder email at least 14 days before expiration. Upon expiration, the balance is reduced to zero and the change is recorded in your credit history.
- Non-transferable: credits are personal to your account and cannot be transferred, sold, or exchanged for cash.
- No cash value: credits have no independent monetary value and cannot be redeemed for money.
11. Gift Vouchers
You may purchase a gift voucher that, when redeemed, grants a fixed number of credits to the redeeming account. Gift vouchers are sold in bundles whose price and credit amount are shown on the gift purchase page at the time of purchase and form part of these Terms by reference. Some gift options are book bundles, which additionally include a voucher for a printed copy of a finished book (see section 13); except where stated otherwise, the rules in this section apply to book bundles bought as gifts in the same way as to credit-only vouchers.
Purchase and the buyer. Gift vouchers are a one-time purchase processed by Stripe in euro (EUR), with VAT as described in section 9. The buyer enters into the purchase contract with us. To complete a purchase you confirm your email address using a one-time code and accept these Terms; if you do not already have an account, one is created for you so that you can manage your purchase. After payment, the buyer receives a confirmation email containing the voucher code and a redemption link, and a printable voucher certificate (PDF) is made available in the buyer's account. You may terminate an account created in this way at any time in accordance with section 16; however, doing so removes your access to the self-service gift management features described below (including viewing the code and certificate, resending or rescheduling delivery, and requesting a refund). The validity and redeemability of any voucher you have already purchased are not affected by closing your account.
Delivery. When buying, you choose how the voucher is delivered:
- You deliver it: we send the code and certificate to you, and you pass it on to the recipient yourself; or
- We deliver it: as a convenience, we will attempt to email the voucher to a recipient address you provide, either immediately or on a future date you select.
Where we email the voucher to a recipient on your behalf, we do so on a best-effort basis only. You are responsible for providing a correct recipient email address and, ultimately, for ensuring that the voucher reaches the recipient in time to be redeemed before it expires. If a delivery we have attempted fails, we will use reasonable efforts to notify the buyer so that the voucher can be delivered manually, but such notice is likewise provided on a best-effort basis and we do not guarantee it. Regardless of the delivery method chosen, the code and certificate remain available in the buyer's account at all times so that the buyer can deliver the voucher directly.
Redemption. A gift voucher is redeemed by entering its code in the Service. Redemption requires a Vellu account; the person redeeming must meet the eligibility requirements in section 3, and by redeeming a voucher that person accepts these Terms. The recipient need not be the buyer. On redemption, the credits are added to the redeeming account's balance, are pooled with any other credits, and are thereafter governed by the use and expiration rules in section 10 (including expiry 24 months after the redemption date). Where the gift is a book bundle, redemption also activates a printed-book voucher on the redeeming account, governed by section 13 (including its 24-month validity, counted from the redemption date). A voucher can be redeemed only once.
Validity period. A gift voucher is valid for 24 months from the date of purchase. The applicable expiry date is stated at the time of purchase and in the confirmation. A voucher must be redeemed before it expires; after expiry it can no longer be redeemed and any unredeemed value is forfeited. This does not affect any mandatory statutory rights you may have as a consumer.
No cash value; non-transferable. Gift vouchers and the credits they grant cannot be exchanged for cash, resold, or transferred other than by giving the unredeemed voucher to a recipient as intended. Complimentary or promotional vouchers that we issue without payment have no cash value and are not refundable.
Refunds and withdrawal. The buyer's right to withdraw from a gift voucher purchase and to obtain a refund is described in section 12.
12. Right of Withdrawal (Distance Sales)
Under the Consumer Protection Act (kuluttajansuojalaki 38/1978, chapter 6) and Directive 2011/83/EU, consumers resident in the EU have the right to withdraw from a distance contract within 14 days of its conclusion without giving any reason.
How to withdraw. Where you have an account, you can request a refund yourself within the Service — from the billing area for subscriptions and credit packs, and from the gift management area for gift vouchers. You may also exercise your right of withdrawal by sending us an unambiguous statement at the contact address in section 19, quoting your account email and the date of purchase. Where the right of withdrawal applies, we refund using the same means of payment as the original transaction, normally within 14 days. Refunds are for the full purchase price paid, including VAT.
Subscriptions and credit packs — express consent to immediate performance. Subscriptions and credit packs add credits to your account immediately on purchase. By proceeding to payment you expressly request that we begin performance of the contract immediately and acknowledge that this affects your right of withdrawal as set out below.
Because credits are supplied up front and are pooled in a single balance that is spent on a first-in, first-out basis, a refund within the 14-day window is available only while your credit balance still covers the number of credits that the purchase granted. We do not pro-rate or partially refund:
- If your balance still covers the credits that purchase granted, you may withdraw and receive a full refund; we will remove exactly that number of credits from your balance.
- If you have already spent credits so that your balance no longer covers that amount, the purchase can no longer be refunded.
For subscriptions, only the initial payment that started the subscription is refundable; renewal payments are not. Refunding the initial payment cancels the subscription immediately. After the 14-day window, subscription payments and credit packs are non-refundable except where mandatory law provides otherwise; you may still cancel a subscription as described in section 9.
Gift vouchers. As the buyer of a gift voucher you are a consumer with the same 14-day right of withdrawal, counted from the date of purchase. Within that period, you may withdraw and receive a full refund of the purchase price to your original means of payment, provided the voucher has not yet been redeemed. You can do this yourself from the gift management area of your account, or by sending an unambiguous statement to us at the contact address in section 19 with your account email and the date of purchase. The refund is normally completed within 14 days of your request.
Because a gift voucher may be redeemed (and the underlying digital content thereby begin to be supplied) by you or the recipient before the 14-day period ends, by purchasing a voucher and choosing to make it available for redemption you expressly request that supply may begin on redemption and acknowledge that your right of withdrawal is lost in respect of a voucher once it has been redeemed. A redeemed voucher cannot be refunded. After the 14-day period, gift vouchers are non-refundable except where mandatory law provides otherwise. Complimentary or promotional vouchers issued without payment are not refundable.
Book bundles. A book bundle is a single purchase for a single combined price that bundles credits (supplied immediately, as above) with a voucher for a printed copy of your book (a right to a personalised good, governed by section 13). Because the two parts are sold together, you may withdraw and receive a full refund within 14 days only while the bundle remains wholly unused — that is, while your credit balance still covers the credits the bundle granted and the printed-book voucher has not yet been redeemed. Once you have spent credits so that your balance no longer covers that amount, or the printed-book voucher has been redeemed (whereupon production of a personalised book may begin and the exemption for personalised goods in section 13 applies), the bundle can no longer be withdrawn or refunded. Where a book bundle was purchased as a gift, the buyer's right of withdrawal is lost once the recipient redeems it, as with gift vouchers above.
This section does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer under Finnish or EU law.
13. Printed Books (Print-on-Demand Orders)
You may order a physical, printed copy of a book you have finished in the Service. Printed books are an optional, separately paid product and are independent of credits — they are paid for with money, not credits.
Merchant and fulfilment. Vellu.AI is the seller and merchant of record for your order. The book is printed and shipped on our behalf by our print-on-demand partner (Lulu Press, Inc.), with production for EU/EEA orders carried out in France. Your order details and the print-ready files of your book are shared with this partner solely to fulfil your order; see our Privacy Policy for how this data is handled.
Each printed book is made to order. No copy is printed until you order it. The book is produced from the content, layout, cover, and options you choose, and is unique to you.
Shipping area. We currently ship printed books only to addresses within the EU/EEA. Destinations outside this area cannot be selected at checkout.
Pricing, VAT, and shipping fees. The price of a printed book is shown to you before you pay and depends on the options you choose (such as size, binding, colour, page count, and quantity). Prices are in euro (EUR) and include Finnish VAT at the applicable rate (currently 25.5%, the rate for a custom printing service). The total includes shipping: a standard delivery option at no extra charge and, where available for your destination, an expedited option for an additional fee. The price breakdown (book, shipping, and total, with VAT shown) is displayed before you confirm the order.
Placing and paying for an order. Printed-book orders are processed by Stripe, as described in section 9. You provide the delivery address at checkout; you are responsible for giving a correct, complete, and deliverable shipping address. After your payment succeeds, we generate the print files and submit the order to our print partner for production. An unpaid order that you have started can be resumed or cancelled from the Service until you pay.
Delivery estimates. Any delivery dates or timeframes shown are estimates only — they combine an estimated production time with the carrier's estimated transit time and are not guaranteed. We are not responsible for delays caused by the carrier, customs, or an incorrect or incomplete address you provided.
Right of withdrawal — personalised goods. A printed book is produced to your specification and is clearly personalised to you. Under the Consumer Protection Act (kuluttajansuojalaki 38/1978, chapter 6, section 16) and Article 16(c) of Directive 2011/83/EU, the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply to goods that are made to the consumer's specifications or are clearly personalised. By placing a printed-book order you request that we begin production immediately and you acknowledge that, once production has begun, you no longer have a right to withdraw from the order. Before production begins (for example, while an order is unpaid, or in the brief window before files are submitted), you may still cancel for a full refund.
If we cannot fulfil your order. Because you pay up front, any order that we cannot fulfil — for example if file preparation or printing fails, the print partner rejects or cancels the job, or we cancel before production — is refunded automatically and in full to your original means of payment, and we notify you by email. This does not affect your mandatory statutory rights.
Defective or damaged books and statutory rights. Nothing in this section limits your mandatory rights as a consumer under Finnish or EU law, including remedies for a book that arrives faulty, damaged, or materially not as described. If your book arrives with a defect, contact us at the address in section 19.
Printed-book vouchers (book bundles). A book bundle (section 8) includes a voucher that entitles you to one printed copy of a finished book. The voucher covers a book of a defined specification — its binding (paperback or hardcover), a black-and-white interior, and up to a set page count — as shown to you at the time of purchase. When you redeem it, you choose a finished book and provide a delivery address, and we show you the price before you confirm:
- The voucher is applied against the current price of a book of the covered specification, calculated from our print pricing at the time of redemption. It is tied to that specification, not to a fixed euro amount, so a later change to our base prices still entitles you to a book of that specification.
- If the book you choose exceeds what the voucher covers — for example a higher page count, additional copies, a different binding, or an expedited shipping option — you pay the difference ("top-up") through Stripe before the order is produced. The full price breakdown is shown before you confirm.
- If the book you choose would cost less than the voucher covers, the voucher is still used in full; the difference is not refunded, credited, or carried over.
A printed-book voucher is valid for 24 months — counted from the date the bundle was purchased or, for a bundle bought as a gift, from the date the gift is redeemed. It can be used only once and is personal to your account: it cannot be transferred, resold, or exchanged for cash and has no independent monetary value. If you do not redeem it before it expires, it can no longer be used and its value is forfeited; this does not affect any mandatory statutory rights you may have as a consumer. Once redeemed, the resulting printed book is produced, priced (including any top-up), delivered, and subject to withdrawal on the same terms as any other printed-book order in this section.
Your content. You are responsible for the content you order printed and confirm that you hold the rights necessary to reproduce it, consistent with sections 5 and 6. We may decline to print content that violates these Terms.
14. Service Availability
We strive to maintain continuous availability of the Service but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service with reasonable notice.
15. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Finnish law, including the Consumer Protection Act (kuluttajansuojalaki 38/1978):
- Vellu.AI shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- Our total liability shall not exceed the fees paid by you in the 12 months preceding the claim
- We are not liable for any loss or corruption of data beyond our reasonable control
These limitations do not affect your statutory consumer rights under Finnish or EU law.
16. Termination
You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us. We may terminate or suspend your access for violation of these Terms with reasonable notice, except in cases of serious violations where immediate action is necessary.
17. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service and provide a 30-day grace period to review and accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept the updated Terms within this period, your account may be suspended until acceptance.
18. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Finland. Any disputes shall be resolved primarily through negotiation. If negotiation fails, disputes shall be submitted to the Helsinki District Court (Helsingin käräjäoikeus), unless you as a consumer are entitled to bring proceedings in the district court of your domicile. You may also contact the Consumer Disputes Board (kuluttajariitalautakunta) at www.kuluttajariitalautakunta.fi.
